Majorca’s most iconic building, the Cathedral of Santa Maria (usually referred to as La Seu) taken just after sunset from Parc de la Mer. I’m sure it’s been done a million times before, though how many of them were done better whilst also sipping an overpriced Guinness from the bar behind I don’t know. One of my favourites of 2012 so far and probably my second favourite pano of all time – looking forward to printing this BIG!

Now and again the urge strikes to attempt one of these mini-planet panoramas. Freshly fuelled by a lovely breakfast in one of these cafes lining Pollenca’s main square, I decided to give it a whirl. The finished article comprises of 19 shots stitched together to make a full 360 degree panorama, then wrapped into the planet shape. The sky and buildings needed no cleanup work, only the floor in the centre needing a little post production.

There are a lot of bodged ones knocking around the internets, but when they really work these mini-planets are great fun and make very distinctive images.

These two were of Eastern European origin and vastly talented champion dancers. They made everything look somewhat glitzy and effortless and there’s no doubt in my mind that most folk would end up in casualty if they attempted any of the moves.

The Printworks in Manchester is not one of my favourite places, in fact quite the opposite. Take a grand old building, rip out the guts, replace with a series of anodyne franchised outlets, whack a faux vintage facade on the central arcade and Bob’s your tacky moneyspinning uncle – an ‘entertainment complex’ populated by clueless kids and the terminally unimaginative, gorging themselves on overpriced drinks and plates of beige fried food.

Still, after a planned event was rained off a ‘Vintage Swing’ at the Printworks proved to be an acceptable alternative for an hour or so – I just made sure I didn’t spend a single penny in the wretched place!

Another bumper value gallery post with the rest of the velodrome series – I have loads more from the velodrome but acknowledge the need for variety and freshness in a photoblog. The velodrome were very photographer friendly, making this a great experience and one I’ll be certain to repeat.

There comes a time when you have to draw a line under everything and today is no exception. I’ve tried to make this blog an open place but every day the slew of spam comments are a drain of resource. Despite trialling most of the WordPress anti-spam plugins there had been little meaningful success in tackling the adverts and assorted junk, so the only sensible option right now is to close the entire site to comments with immediate effect. If you have something to say, feel free to use the contact form.

Cheers folks,
Peter
